I'm an very much interested in being able to add my food scraps to the compost bin. I eat whole food, plant based, so I have no animal products. Are there any rules for using the bin? I'll be glad to turn the compost any time I visit to drop off scraps. What are we adding as far as non food to help with the composting? Thanks Bev

Hi! Thanks for sharing about your interest in the compost bin. One of our residents has been working on it and it's good to go. You can put any kitchen scraps (peels, coffee/tea grounds, etc) in it. Nothing like meat, eggs, etc. PLEASE NO recycle type of objects (seriously, people are using it for a recycle bin...) It needs to be layered with green (leaves) and brown (dried dead grasses) stuff. No big chunks or long pieces (wood, plant stalks, etc) tho please. It can be rolled to keep the mix healthy...watch out tho - the top is broken and does not stay on well.

The bio orb is supposed to roll easily. At its old home I could wven roll it up hill, but it has gotten mighty heavy! It was part of a senior project for one of my sons. His report claimed you needed lots of nitrogen....leaves.
