Ellen’s Journey to tiny began by planning her tiny house and tiny living for several years before she arrived here at Tiny Estates, as a first-time renter in the spring of 2018. For a whole year thereafter, Ellen came each month and stayed for a week in a different house! She was doing serious research, investigating and experiencing each and every house she stayed in. Finally, she chose a friend to design and build Moondance.
With roots from New England, Ellen is mainly from the mainline outside Philly and lived in the suburbs of Philly for a very long time. There she raised a family and then her children were grown and on their own, and she dreamed of something different. Something just for her.
Ellen particularly enjoys Moondance’s fun and beautiful features which she helped design, including her rooftop privacy “moon deck” (one that actually sinks into the tiny house so it has walls that are about 4’ tall). Also, she has a stunning airbrushed image of a tree of life and full moon on one side and a faux bookcase made from project scrap wood on the bump-out. Inside, the bathroom pocket door looks just like an authentic outhouse door with a moon and star carved right through. And practical features include a hydraulic storage bed in her first floor bedroom, which provides lots of easily accessed hidden storage underneath. Initially, living at Tiny Estates during the short-term rentals period, Ellen enjoyed having “revolving neighbors”. Being PA born and bred, Tiny Estate’s location is excellent for her and she also really enjoys her annual mint garden
As one of our longest term residents, Ellen continues to enjoy meeting neighbors - she has an open invitation for BYO coffee on her deck once spring truly arrives.
