We gathered on an appropriately cold, rainy morning last weekend and learned many helpful considerations and actions for the winter months. Cody walked us through how to properly prepare our tiny houses with lots of practical tips and observations on what works and what doesn’t. Even though each house is of course different, there are some standard things everyone should check - like electric/heating/propane systems and also of course water flow & pipe situations (p-traps, exterior hook-ups, etc). Insulation, condensation & humidity, and having Plan A & B in place if you have an issue which requires immediate attention - these were all things we discussed. Participants had a chance to ask any specific questions about their houses, and we took a walk around some of the houses to see examples of things like hook-ups that needed attention to avoid freezing, and how our heated water hose systems work. All in all, I think we feel better equipped to face the winter with houses ready for whatever comes. Check out the attached handout, and list of actions to do your own preparations. And from this Florida person, I say “Let it snow!” but please - only a little bit this winter!! Attachments:winterizing-workshop.pdf (404.14 KB)
